Stoney Creek Restoration Update: This Hotel Is Ready for Business!
Back in October, we shared our beginning progress on a hotel restoration project in Onalaska, Wisconsin, a sister city to Lacrosse, Wisconsin. This was a massive undertaking for our team. What started as a small fire from a gas fireplace insert was quickly extinguished, but unfortunately not before 18 sprinkler heads went off. The majority of the hotel damages were due to the large amounts of water, ruining a major conference center, restaurant, and parts of the lobby.
We are pleased to say that the project is officially completed, both on budget and on schedule! The hotel has already resumed holding weddings since the beginning of November, and they’ve been booked solid ever since. We were also able to complete renovations at the hotel bar and grill, Lumberjack’s Saloon, just in time for the grand re-opening ceremony by the Chamber of Commerce. Take a look at the end result...
When Looking Pretty Much the Same As Before Is Exactly What the Client Ordered
In all, we rebuilt the conference center, it’s attached pre-function space and bar, a back hallway, and a large entryway area. There is a fairly large hallway where people congregate and gather before events start, and it’s a key area for their event space.
We replaced all of the breakfast room cabinets and carpet, giving the breakfast room portion of the lobby a serious a facelift. With that, we also rebuilt the front desk area, the back office area, the sales office, and the business center. The conference room meeting space was also entirely rebuilt, including all of the corresponding hallways and corridors.
The Fireplace That Started It All
Remember the outdoor fireplace in the hotel courtyard that wreaked all the havoc when a fire started in the gas insert? Who knew that such a small fire could create such massive damage, setting off those 18 sprinkler heads. We were able to rebuild the outdoor fireplace as well, and you’d never know by looking at it that a fire ever occurred here.
All In A Day’s Work
This project was incredibly successful, and we were able to restore nearly 90% of the hotel’s structures exactly as they were. The only changes we helped make were simple cosmetic updates including updated trim and floor materials. The hotel looks almost identical, but perhaps a bit trendier. It’s all in a day’s work for J. Thompson Builders, and we couldn’t be happier with how this project turned out.
We’re always happy to help with restoration projects, big or small. One of our most successful feats in this project was staying on budget. Read up on our tips for staying on budget with your home projects.
