A Custom Home Building Project for the Ages — Part 3
J Thompson Builders was recently rated as one of the Best Customer Home Builders in Des Moines, Iowa by Home Builder Digest. A national publication, they base their ratings on design, customer satisfaction, and cost among other things. We’re grateful to be recognized for our unique designs, knowledgeability in the field, and ability to craft a home uniquely suited to our customer’s lifestyles.
To give an example of the kinds of craftmanship we offer, we’ve got a final update on the Rogers home. If you need a refresher on the beginning stages of this home, check out Part 1 and Part 2 for more information about the design and early construction phases.
A Home to Make Memories In
We’ve been working heavily with the owners to design a modern home that would give them plenty of space to entertain friends and family and allow them to age into their home without having to worry about accessibility. The owners opted for a zero-entry entrance, allowing a stair-less ease of entry from the garage to the home. Whether it’s being able to push strollers directly into the home or carry in groceries without having to watch for a step, this is an appealing choice for all stages of life. Four of our recent homes have opted for this style, taking smart advantage of a new trend. Aside from being a great feature for aging, it’s also a great feature in a universal design.
Beautiful Inside and Out
The owners did a great job helping to design this home, making it a truly beautiful home inside and out. One of the ways they accomplished this was to give the home a full wrap around stucco siding. This stony textured choice adds a South-Eastern charm to the whole house, enhancing its appearance in a subtle but beautiful way. Some people will only use stucco on the front, curbside of a home, but the choice to use it around the whole home creates a cohesive elegance that’s worth a longer look. For a family hoping to host lots of loved ones, it also offers a gorgeous view of the home from backyard BBQs.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, stucco is more durable than other siding and can maintain its charm for decades without upkeep. It also serves as extra insulation, which can help reduce energy costs by making your home more energy efficient.
Making Good Use of Space
The owners opted for hardwood floors with an open floor plan, helping to expand and maximize the feel of the house. It offers a flow to the house that welcomes grandchildren running around and won’t impede mobility if walking aids become necessary. It also welcomes movement of different friends coming and going, enjoying snacks and good conversation around a beautiful kitchen island.
The owners did an excellent job with the interior design and decoration of this home, maximizing efficient use of the space. Corner shelves in shower stalls are just one example of the little details that speak to the attention to detail in the design process of this custom home and we hope those features continue to delight and serve the family well into old age.
