A Custom Home Building Project for the Ages — Part 2
In November, we shared with you the beginnings of a new home we’re building in West Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers decided to relocate from Fort Dodge to be closer to their children and grandchildren and with the move, wanted to create a special space to build memories. Working in collaboration with their specific visions and our designers, we created a beautiful balance of design and functionality.
The home includes a zero-threshold entry, making it a home the couple can comfortably age into, and offers 4 bedrooms and 2 ¾ bathrooms so that they can easily accommodate guests. A large basement allows for plenty of storage space and connects directly with the backyard. With the practical structure laid out, we set to work on the trim and design elements which will give the home a classic, timeless feel.
BRINGING THE VISION TO LIFE
Since our last post, we completed all the drywall and primed the walls for painting. We’re now in the trimming phase where we get to bring the visual details to life that transform a building into a stunning home. In this stage of construction, we really start to see the owners’ vision become a reality.
Doorways have been adorned with a natural-looking wooden trim, giving structure to the many different rooms in the house. The bathrooms are in the process of being tiled, giving them a clean, relaxing look just waiting for some steam. The showers have been fitted with individual corner shelves to optimize use of the space, connecting with the clean, sleek look of the overall house.
PUTTING IN ROOM FOR STORAGE
The kitchen is a focal point for any household that likes to host, and the Rogers home is no exception. The cabinets have mostly been installed, offering a strong sense of what the kitchen will look like. At its center is an island, which will add extra storage as well as providing a central space for guests and loved ones to gather around.
READY FOR WARM WEATHER
It has been a cold and wet winter this year which has caused us to be patient with the outside elements. With spring and warmer weather arriving, we’ll be able to add the stucco siding to the home to give it the unique South-Eastern charm the Rogers hope to bring to the neighborhood. The driveway will go in as soon as the weather cooperates to welcome the Rogers to their new home.
In the next 2 to 2 ½ months, the house should be ready for the Rogers to move into, just in time to start making summer memories with their family. There are still quite a few custom designs to come in the meantime, including some custom creations from our partners at JT Unique. We can’t wait to see how it turns out!
